If you’re looking for a simple, healthy, tasty side dish, frozen green beans are it. These veggies are affordable, always in season (thanks to freezing!), and packed with nutrients. This post will share an easy frozen green bean recipe and tips for enhancing flavor and health. Let’s get started!
Why Use Frozen Green Beans?
Frozen green beans are an excellent alternative to fresh ones, especially when you’re short on time. In this frozen green bean recipe, I use haricot vert, which is made of French beans. They are much thinner and quicker to cook. They’re typically picked and frozen at peak ripeness, which means they retain most of their nutrients and flavor. Also, you don’t have to worry about washing or trimming. They’re ready when you are!
Simple Frozen Green Bean Recipe
Ingredients:
- Frozen haricot vert or green beans
- Olive oil
- Butter
- Garlic
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lemon juice (optional)
- Low-sodium soy sauce
- Sesame oil
Instructions:
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Wait until the oil gets hot, and then add the butter. Next, add the green beans and toss them around with tongs. Then add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic—it should be golden, not brown.
- Let the green beans cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re heated through and begin to brown slightly on the edges.
- Season the beans with salt, pepper, and low-sodium soy sauce for an umami flavor. I also like to add a few dashes of sesame oil. If you want a bit of acidity, a squeeze of lemon juice adds a fresh flavor.
- Next, you’re ready to serve. These sautéed green beans make a great chicken, fish, or protein side dish and a healthy snack!
