These tuna lettuce wraps are not just tasty, but light, fresh, and perfect for Spring. This recipe is not your traditional tuna sandwich. So ditch the bread and enjoy the freshness and no guilt of eating carbs, by using lettuce instead.
What is the best lettuce to use for a tuna lettuce wrap?
You can use Bibb lettuce, but I personally like to use butterhead lettuce. Butterhead lettuce is buttery and has a soft texture. It’s also very eye-catching because of its vibrant light green color and delicate texture.
What is the best tuna to use for the tuna salad?
Grocery stores have many varieties, but I personally enjoy Albacore tuna in water. Albacore tuna is firm and meaty and has a mild taste. You can use whatever tuna you prefer, but I would suggest that for this recipe you get tuna in water. Only because you will be adding mayo to the tuna mixture, and if it were tuna in oil it would be too much fat in the tuna salad. Also, tuna in oil has more calories.
This recipe is great for lunch and good to serve during warmer weather. Who doesn’t want a light, fresh, and cool dish on a warmer day? Not only are these great for lunch, but also if you are having guests over and eating al fresco. Finger foods like this are such a great crowd-pleaser. There is something about eating food with your hands that is so convenient and satisfying. You can also easily pack these to go. Pack the lettuce and tuna salad separately and then build it on the go if you’re at work or at a picnic.
